Antimicrobial use and resistance in Eastern Canadian cow-calf herds

What is this project about?

Previously Western and central Canada were investigated regarding antimicrobial use and resistance in cow-calf herds, therefore this project aims to complete the puzzle by investigating Eastern Canada antimicrobial use and resistance in cow-calf herds.

Cow-calf veterinarians and producers will be surveyed on their antimicrobial use then a summary of this information will be complied. Lastly, fecal samples from cows and calves will be analyzed for antimicrobial resistance in E. coli and Enterococcus hirae.

Researchers began this project in Spring 2021 with producer recruitment.
