Dr. Ira Mandell has contributed to the beef research at the U of G over many years as a professor. He taught many undergraduate classes inspiring the researchers of tomorrow to learn about anatomy, physiology, and animal nutrition. He served as the faculty supervisor of the U of G Meat Science Lab for several years. Over his tenure he investigated many aspects of animal nutrition and how meat quality would be affected. He was one of the first researchers to investigate adding omega-3 fatty acid enrichment of beef cattle feed via feeding fish products to cattle. His work revolved around feeding strategies to improve cattle performance, enhance eating quality, and improve nutrient content of beef.
Congratulations on your retirement Dr. Mandell!
